Do you use 5w30 in your mower? Does your mower hold 2 quarts?

FWIW I have a 2018 model Troy Bilt Pony (MTD) with a Briggs 17.5 engine and it takes 1 1/2 quarts of oil and the book calls for 5W-30 full synthetic as an alternative. I think they prefer straight 30 Briggs air cooled oil though. I use 10W-30 Mobil One in mine because that's what I use in my Generac generator.

Yes, and yes. 2.2 quarts. Kawasaki 23HP (FR691V) on a Hustler zero turn. Spec is 10W-30 (preferred and stamped on the dipstick), SAE30, or 10W-40 conventional SF-SL. Manual states "using multi-grade oils will increase oil consumption. Check oil level more frequently when using them." I have used Valvoine Synpower 5W-30 SN since the factory fill along with a WIX 57035 at every oil change. Haven't had to add a drop, and it frequently sees 90°F+, sometimes 100°F+. Obviously I'm easy on it if it has to work at 100°, for the engine's benefit and mine. Mower sees double duty on two properties all year except winter. One property is about 2 acres and takes about 2.5 hours to mow, the other 1 acre and takes about 3.5 hours (lots of obstacles and fences). Each are mowed about every week and a half. I change it once around the 4th of July, and then around April 1st before spring mowing season regardless of hours. Gets a splash of Techron the tank before an oil change. 87 octane E-0 only, OEM NGKs as needed, air filter every third oil change, fuel filters every three years.

Still purrs like brand new, and the plastic dipstick isn't discolored in the slightest, which tells me the internals are at least as clean. I still think it's hilarious that I've never had to touch the choke (even when I move it in the dead of winter). It just fires right up.
