It's pretty standard on Mercedes. There's an option on the E63 for carbon fiber trim instead of the wood trim. The regular E class has regular wood trim. The 2010-2013 E class had some defective wood trim though, it'd fade as they didn't put in enough UV protectant. The trim kits listed for 4k, even discounted online they were 3k.

I've seen on a lot of the German cars you can order them without wood trim. That would be the only way I could do it. The newer Super Duty trucks have a bit of wood trim on the door panels. Fortunately it is dark and not hideously noticeable like the older Lariats.

My 1995 Mercedes has it. When 7 years old it was cracked and crazing on two pieces.

I'd like it more if it was better made.

Wood trim, fake or real, adds a touch of warmth to any interior.
I guess I do like it.

Hate low class cars with wood trim.

Low-class, eh?

How many cars have actual laquered wood and Italian leather?

I guess the germans aren't wrong to assume people will buy the badge and not worry to much about the rest of the car eh!

No, typically not. I have yet to be in a vehicle where it didn't cheapen the look of the interior. Even the real wood looks plastic so I car little if it's real or fake.
Of course it could be worse, it could be carbon Fibre, now that stuff is downright tacky. The newer carbon flake used on the supercars is much nicer, but I'm sure that will soon be available as a kit for the dodge chargers and Honda civics of the world.
Admittedly I drive domestics and they are the worst, they also have some of the worst plastic interiors as well. That said, if I'm looking for classy interiors it's leather and the way it's put together, feel and touch, etc. I have seen interiors with few high quality pieces that look more classy than the supposed "high quality" interiors.

Just as bad as the glue-on fake chrome that some people go overboard on.

Having had British cars with real wood trim, this plastic stuff seems a bit junky. My Volvo has it, couldn't care less, black plastic would be better than wood plastic.

Depends upon the vehicle. Could be nice, could be awful. I couldn't imagine any trim range where wood would work in my current fleet.

On my DD, only if its is real. It can warm up an otherwise sterile environment.

Cheesy plastic woodgrain, like awful stiff vinyl and garish colors, is perfectly acceptable on a classic or vintage car if original...
