Do old vinyl records have any value?

For cassette, I recorded primarily on TDK SA, SA-X and MA.

For 8-Track tape it was whatever was available; BASF, Memorex, Ampex, Realistic (Radio Shack) or whatever tape Olsen Electronics cartridges contained.

IMO, the best sounding car deck was the Muntz 888.

ahh yes TDK had a nice "bright" sound to it, clean, detailed. I really liked the TDK MA-XG (metal tape) I remember the Maxell MX-S, deeper bass.. But let's not forget the Sony Metal ES in the ceramic case! Metal Master I think it was called.. It didn't have as much bass as the MX-S but it was very accurate! Couldn't tell the difference between CD and tape!

you got me remembering what tapes I used back in the day..

Chrome ? I find they hold up better as the years pass .
Yes Chrome and Metal have a higher magnetic retention level. Plus those tapes had to be made stronger because of the adhesion of the Chrome or Metal particles. I remember splicing regular type 1 (ferric oxide) and Type 3 (Chrome) and 4 (metal) and could see the thickness backing differences. That helps in making it last longer too. In case you wanted a more detailed account of why they seem to last longer..
