I just started changing my own about 10k ago so im not to up on specs. I have a 1998 jeep grand 4.0 with 170k no leaks at all! Engine is so clean inside it shines. I used synpower last time with a pureone changed it at 3k (a whole 4 days driving) this time PP with a wix. any advice. Not worryed about the price of syn, this baby has to last me awhile. I really want to know if she needs a High Mileage oil.

Since you have no oil consumption and your engine is clean, you don't need High Mileage oil.

If you use syn oils you can extend OCI to more than 6-7k miles.

If the engine is clean, doesn't leak and doesn't burn any oil between changes.....I don't see the need for a High Mileage oil. I don't see the need for a full synthetic with 3K OCIs either, but a lot of people of BITOG use full synthetics and low OCIs.

Did I read your post correctly in that you drove 3K miles in 4 days? If that is the case you should be able to go way past 3K using PP with long highway runs. That is a lot of miles quick!!

the High Mileage oils have better additives than regular oils...those Jeeps are flat tappet cams and the higher ZDDP content of High Mileage oils will prolong the cam life. but then again, if changed regularly it would seem SM oils have done it well...
