sometime since the 50s or 60 the recommended change went from
"every other oil change"
to
"every oil change".

i never saw a technical reason.

oil is better now. gas probably is cleaner too.

my guess it is a marketing thing. plus filters are cheaper now I think in constant dollars

Hope you enjoy your GTP.

would a high flow filter count as a 6k filter...donaldson is a high flow high filtration...what u think, can i leave it for 6k (2 oil changes)?

Hi,
If you use synthetic my advice is to go by Oil Life Monitor. I'm completely sure that you'll be safe. As mentioned earlier 6k for air filter is a waste of money. My air filter on 2002 Grand AM 2.2 got pretty dirty at 18500 miles so I changed it. Using high quality oil filter like Mobil 1 and K&N and good synthetic oil Oil Life Monitor will work perfectly. If you go with non-synthetic oil and cheap oil filter I guess you can go 4000 - 5000 miles. If you can't find good oil filter but use synthetic oil change your filter every 3-4k miles.
Just in case - read manual once again.

the ac delco filter is fine for 15k miles, I have the same engine and do 10k oil and filter changes. I plan to keep the car to 250k miles. I intend to do 50k transmission flushes. just follow the service indicator and you'll be fine. you are wasting money doing much more. I use ac delco & Mobil 1 btw.
