Recommendations for oil filter change-severe duty

I change oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles as a matter of course. Oil filters're simply too cheap to avoid the slight additional expense I incur by changing every time I change oil. Besides, whatever's in the old filter is old, cloudy, additive depleted oil. Why contaminate the fresh oil with it? I use Walmart's two-buck filters.

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, but have been lurking and learning for the past 4 or five months here. For my first post, I would like to ask whether it is necessary to change the Delco oil filter every 3000 miles ,with the oil change under the following conditions: Driven only a total of 6 miles a day, no freeway miles, car barely gets up to temperature, Pennzoil 5w30, extended idling once a week (30 minutes). THe car is a 1993 Olds Cutlass Supreme, 3.1L engine, 56000 on the odometer. Do you think I can just change the filter every other oil change interval?

I realize how simple to change and inexpensive an oil filter is, I was just wonder how much more capacity (to trap particles) is left when you change one out after only 3000 miles.
Old oil in the filter can be drained out, but just imagine how much is left in the pan and clinging to all the motor internals.
