I don't know if syn oil in general could be considered always better than dino when it comes to how smooth your engine is.

I noticed when I switched to StartUP(a blend) after using Supertech dino and valvoline dino. ST made the engine quite loud and it had an odd vibration. Valvoline made the engine a bit smoother but the sounds were still a bit loud.

When I switched to Startup the sound was MUCH quieter and the engine overall smoother. No performance changes though. It wasn't a placebo effect as I only purchased startup because it was on deep discount one day from PepPunks. I wasnt't expecting anything different.

The only time I DID notice a major effect from oil is when I added LC20 to my StartUp. I am a die hard LC fan ever since then. I gave my neighbor some LC20 for her 2002 Saturn and she noticed the same sort of effects.

There is a HUGE difference for me on a COLD start. Night and Day. Synthetic gear lube makes a huge difference in shift quality as well.

Not so much a difference once things are warm.

The Castrol StartUp made a noticable improvement in smoothness. I dont think it was my imagination because I tried in different vehicles with noticable effects. Performance didnt change and gas milelage actually seemed to be worse by a small margin. Still the smoothness and the quietness of the motor improved so much I probably would have paid the premium price for Castrol startup if they still sold it, I wish I would have discovered it sooner.

Where I notice the difference between synth and conv oil in my car is when I step on it and hit the powerband at full operating temperature.

A Nissan VG30DE engine runs like a 2 stroke bike at upper RPMs. It doesn`t make it`s power until you reach about 4k RPM. With conv oil,it seemed to struggle, but once I put the M1 15W50 in it,it`d reach redline smooth as glass, and wanting to be pushed further. I switched back and forth a few times and I can definitely tell a difference.

Z1 Motorsports actually recommends Mobil 1 15W50 on Twin Turbo model Z32s.

Anyway,time for another cerveza!
