Wow. That is incredible. I have never seen anybody use an impact on a drain plug... off or on. Some cars have aluminum pans, so that's just asking for a disaster.

Unfortunately, unless you keep pushing the matter, like calling the regional director, nothing gets done. I realize you have moved on, but if you had kept climbing the ladder, eventually someone WOULD have cared!

On tires yes. I have never heard of an impact being used on a drain plug.

Most shops expect their guys to do certain jobs in a set amount of time, This time is set by bean counters with no clue. They would never meet the expectations if they did not use power tools. If they do not meet the expectations they get canned. Plus rotating 100 tires a day by hand would be murder.

I agree...with all that's happened to Toyota the last few years with the millions of cars recalled, I'm sure that service departments across the country were slammed. I could easily see the possibility of where Service Managers could run vehicles down their technicians throats...makes for a bad recipe.

I hope I don't have any problems with this car. Wife loves it and I'll admit, I enjoy driving it too...15k on the odo...hope it goes 200k

Worst: Walmart, about ten years ago we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC. Not many AWD Subaru's at the beach, so their experience I guess was limited. Being the OCD person I am concerning oil, the odometer rolled past the oil change due and I decided to have it changed. The "tech" utterly destroyed the plastic cover under the filter and drain plug. Even with me standing at the door of the garage bay explaining to him how to remove it..... never again. Didn't hurt anything major, but I learned my lesson.

Best: I owned a 2007 Tundra with the 5.7. My Toyota dealer always sent me $29.95 oil change specials like clockwork for 5K oci's with Mobil conventional 5W-20. Since it held 7.5 quarts and with the filter I couldn't afford to not do this deal. Besides the skid plate on the 4x4 was a bear to remove to do the change. Just didn't make sense to do it myself. The shop foreman was a friend, and I never had any problem with their service. This is the only vehicle I've owned that I never did a single oil change on.

Best of the best: Under my own vehicle, with my own tools where I can check for other problems and make sure the job is done right with the exact oil and filter I paid for.

Worst: Local stealership that removed my friend's oil and filter and then sent him down the road with NO OIL!!!

Huge fight and tons of arguing finally got him a new engine, but was it worth it?

One of the main reasons I change all my fleet vehicles and my own cars personally is that it gives me a chance to see so many other things while I'm under there.

I had local Oil change shops change my oil a few times and they drove me to doing it myself. They were Quaker State stores at the time, now Jiffy Lube. The kids there would get oil on my hood, door handle and leather steering wheel. That was after ignoring my request for the factory-mandated oil weight and putting in whatever they had in the large tank feeding the shop fill-hose.

The best experiences have been from the dealerships actually. They were fast, used the correct oil and didn't get my vehicle dirty.
