DT just dropped their Memorial Day sale. Up to $160 off on select tires or $240 off select tire & wheel packages.

I noticed that they’re now making you choose EITHER the discount or the promo financing period. When did this happen!? I used to buy during the holiday sales because you’d get both a discount (I remember it being bigger…) AND promo financing period. Typically you get 5% off if using the DT credit card too, but I have a feeling that no longer stacks either.

I guess I’m ranting, but didn’t see this posted previously so perhaps this is a new thing they’re introducing.

Link Here.

doesnt matter to me.. since the DT card is synchrony bank and they are dirtbags..
I would pay off within first month every time anyway.

but for people that actually used it... bummer.

Not only to mention that the promo financing probably requires a 2% "Fee" or buy down.
That's a fairly new feature on most, if not all, Synchrony cards.
Anymore, I've found that I can do as well or better at one of the warehouse clubs, or at one of the local Ford or Chrysler dealerships when they offer one of their promos.

Interesting, I have their Care Credit for vet visits and DT. I've not had had this in the past, bud admittedly, it's been a bit since I've used them. When have you observed this?

afaik it only requires the min monthly payment.
and if you dont have it paid off in the time period 3-6-9-12 months(whatever it is)
they charge you back interest from the day you purchased.

I had synchrony bank for bestbuy about 15 years ago.. and my account was off by .03 due to a return-- their error.
and they tried to charge me $300 in interest (29.99% for 12 month)
because the 12 months ended 10 days before the due date.
That was annoying.

You know what they say about fool me once.

I bought a Select Number mattress and was offered 36 months SAC.
This SAC offer was tendered through a Select Number credit card, issued by Synchrony.
About 6 months in, received a letter giving 30 days notice that if I wanted to continue the SAC agreement, that I would be assessed a 2% fee.
So, I called to verify the payoff.
Then, I wrote a check for $2700. to pay the mattress in full.
Maybe I'm viewing the situation through a narrow prism, but if there is a 2% fee assessed, it is not the "Same as cash."

Right before Christmas 2025 I picked up 4 new tires, rims and tpms for my CX-5 and did grab their card even though I didn't need it just for the finance deal. I always buy on a holiday whether that's memorial, black friday etc... Due to the little amount of driving I'm doing currently I'm guessing these tires will be on for at least 5 years and will probably be replaced for dry rot over tread wear.

Do you recall if you got the additional discount (assuming during their Christmas sale) or was it just the 0% finance?

I used to get absolutely phenomenal deals at Discount Tire.

One that sticks in my mind were a set of tires on a 1994 Geo Prizm. 14 inch tires were already cheap and this was right around 2016.

I got a set of top of Continentals installed for $342. Then i got a $230 credit.

My net cost was $112 for 80,000 mile tires. Last year I did get three sets of tires (14, 15, and 16) for only $718 all in. They were for a 2003 Kia Spectra hatchback, a 2009 Nissan Atlima hybrid, and a 2017 Nissan LEAF.

The discounted portion was only $100 minus my commercial discounts.

I got $80 off the Pirelli tires plus another 5% for using the card $86.40. I picked it up when it was getting dark and didn't notice they put standard lugs on instead of the ones I requested so once I called them the next day he said the guys screwed up come on back and after switching the lugs out he refunded me the $51.00 on those too. So in total I got $217.40 off. This was 12/18/25 though. Other tires might have had bigger discounts but I wanted to try the Pirellis this time over the Yokohama's I almost bought.

I've been a loyal DT for 20 years as their price, promotion and service were as good as it gets IMO. Their HQ are a couple miles north of me.

While DT service is still top shelf, their prices and promotions have gone straight down the crapper over the past 5-ish years.

The founder, Bruce Halle. died 8 years ago. I suspect he was not involved with the business over his last few years, but it sure is a coincidence that their P&P started to go south around his death.

And my DT CC will be closed within the fortnight since one must now choose the instance savings and or promotional interest rate.

On a related note, I seem to recall the lower dollar threshold to get the promo rate too, but dang if I remember.

I also notice they raised the prices $40 a tire for a set of Michelins I priced last week. The same $80 rebate applied last week as it does this week.

I've been a huge fan of Discount Tire and still am to a degree.

But I do think the corporate side is trying to game the system a bit.

Specifically, I really don't appreciate the push to replace tires that are only 6 years old when 10 years is the usual time period. Treadwear is also getting ratcheted up from 2/32s to 5/32s with a bunch of store presentations designed to 'fear' the customer.

It reminds me a lot of 3,000 mile oil changes at the quickie lubes. Instilling fear in the hopes of getting more churn out of a product that is not wore out and usually doesn't need replacement.

They can do better than this. But quarterly earnings... are now the ultimate goal. So now you get the corporate trickery.

agreed about corporate culture creep down into the guys turning wrenches. I used to have no problem sending an uninformed woman to DT knowing she'd be taken care of like a little sister. No more. They try to upsell all sorts of trash now - wipers, alignments, etc. I had a guy insist my wheels were "aftermarket" despite my correcting him every time he said it. He was an "assistant manager." I am having less and less faith in people the older I get.

Example: I replaced the wipers on a van for a friend two weeks prior to her scheduled tire rotation. They said "you need wipers." She declined, but told me about the exchange. smh
