( dino with short OCI ) vs ( synthetic with long OCI )

which do you prefer?

according to the weather,
according how severe the service is,
according to blah~blah~

Synthetic but it depends if you like to change oil or you like to pay for oil changes and the real killer today is do you have the time to do it or take it in to do it every 3000 miles or so. Less hassle with synthetic and even if you miss that 5000 or 7500 mile change ingterval the oil is still good in all probability

It shouldn't be a preference unless you truly enjoy changing oil. It's what works. Beyond a certain mileage, you're engaging in way too many service incidents in a given year. No reason for that much work.

We're odd birds here. We actually KNOW we're either over maintaining or adequately maintaining our engines. Most have no rhyme or reason to their oil changing habits ..or are negligent.

Many here manage to get their excessive oil changing "fix" by extending the habit to others cars.

In my case it's either really. 5k is the max i'd run any synthetic and dino in my truck. 3.5qt sump = oil destruction, especially since im 60 city/40 highway now.

Switching to dino-juice to lessen my costs as I think it will protect just as well as the synthetic for what I do.

Synthetic with long OCI.

Leased Caddy has to take synth for warranty, which ends up getting changed about every 10 months or whatever the OLM says.

Mazda 6 (owned) also gets changed about every 10 months.
Change them both myself with M1. Caddy is super easy to do, because filter is located on top, and I can fit under the vehicle for oil drain out.

I wanted to say Amsoil in everthing and a once a year OCI (or longer) but thought I'd get flamed. My DUALLY has rolled 1800 miles in 10 months with Amsoil full synthetic 15w40 and I DON"T think I'm gonna drain it at the 1 year mark.

It's simple. I have no time to change oil every month or two on three cars. Needless waste and hassle of dealing with used oil - yeah I know 50% is recycled, 25% is burned and 25% is dumped in your neighbor's (Eddie) yard, but still it's a pain that is not necessary. I invite anyone over to see how clean my engines are next teardown in 2026, regardless of the myth of fresh oil seemingly keeping the engine clean and anything over 7-8-10-12-20K+ just killing an engine. With the correct oil that is poppycock.

Time = Money for me = Longer OCI = Synth = Free AR

Go ask professional heavy loaders with all their tools, fasteners, screws, washers and so on arranged neatly in their vehicle. One day may cost them $500 and more. Also some don't do their own oil changes and takes it in for service.

Longer OCI with a quality synthetic oil for extended drain intervals saves them. Working 6 and sometimes 7 days a week time for a breathe of air has meaning and value to rest their bodies.

They do change all their fluids to a quality synthetic oil. Time is money and to a have a breather especially when they know they aren't getting any younger.

Given the driving conditions of stop and go traffic and there is no way one could drive 1 hour non stop at highway speed it's virtually impossible unless your driving from 11PM-3AM.

Oil is changed every 6 months at 12,000-15,000 miles.
