Different countries using different viscosities

70MPH in 6th is 2200 RPM in my C180K and still only 2700 RPM in 5th


Naturally aspirated cars my not be so highly geared.

My wife's 2013 Mazda3 Skyactive manual says 20W for USA, 5W30 for Mexico. The difference? CAFE.

Given it is a DI engine, we run 5W30. No worries.

Well, Nissan uses french gearbox in this car (made by Renault). I presume that during the design phase they were out too many times in national strikes.

My 2004 Honda S2000 is turning 4000 RPM at 75 MPH in 6th gear. The car gear ratios are designed for performance, not fuel economy.

Last month some of my family had come to visit me here in Mallorca ,Spain and i was carrying 4 people including me and 2 fairly heavy suitcases and i had to drive them to the hotel which was nearly 100 Km away on the other side of the island and there were a few fairly steep hills along the way and surely i noticed the temp gauge was quite a bit higher than usual, my fuel clnsumption was quite a bit higher too about 15/16 mpg when i usually get 20 or higher , this is with my Ford Capri, i guess it's not bad though to give the engine a good workout driving at high speed and getting the engine hot with these carbureted cars it helps to clean some of the carbon that inherently builds up, the next day i started it up again and it ran a lot smoother

If you also look at the global manual PDF, the Skyactiv engine can run anything from a 0w20 to 5w40.

Wow. Seeing as she does alot of short trips, I may standardize with my Colorado - T6!!

One of the things that bugs me about the US CAFE system is that the additional costs of specifying thinner oil are never set against the fuel savings you are supposed to achieve. This works brilliantly for the OEMs because CAFE credits are a one way bet. However if you are an end consumer, if this logic is to make any sense, you have to do the financial maths and compare the two factors. I suspect today, with low oil prices, thin oils do not make sense. When GF-6 comes in, it will make even less sense...
