Diff and transfer case fluid levels

I have a 2006 2500HD with 6.6L diesel w/ 6 spd transmission. I need to change the transfer case fluid. I can't find the capacity for it. Does anyone know?? I have always filled it until it is level with the overflow on the transfer case or diff on other veh., but have heard that I am only to fill to within 1/2" of the overflow. Which is correct.

Transfer Case, NVG 149-NP3..........4.5 pints
Transfer Case, NVG 246-NP8..........4.1 pints
Transfer Case, NVG 261-NP2..........4.1 pints
Transfer Case, NVG 263-NP1..........4.1 pints

I usually fill to 1/4", however.. since my fat fingers don't fit in the smaller holes anymore, I wait till it dribbles out and cap it off.

How do I tell which model transfer case I have. I can't find a label anywhere.

Whichever you have, you will need 3qts...
