diesel oil in a 98 f150 v6

Has anyone run 15w40 in a 1998 f150? I've run straight 30 but was wondering if 15w40 was too heavy? Thanks

If you ran straight 30W with no issues, then 15W-40 should be no problemo.....

I've used Exxon XD-3, 15W-40, in my F-150 with no problems so far, but since I have only 230,000 miles on the truck, it may be too soon to tell.

A buddy of mine runs that in his d7 dozer. Swears by it. How long have you been using it what year/ engine do you have?

4.2L V6 is my guess.

Why are you running such a heavy oil? Do a lot of towing?

darkdan, If you are addressing this to me, then yes, lately I've been putting the little v6 to good use. From high speed trips to towing 2 to 3k lbs at highway speeds. The havoline 5w20 has held up well, but with summer and the 100+ temperatures was looking for an added measure of protection and a 5 to 6k oci at a reasonable price. Obviously the m1 is a no brainer, but 6.5 qts a 5+ dollars...well, you can do the math. A reasonable solution seems to point at the diesel oils. They seem to work well in the semi-desert heat.
