Consumers drive the market not marketing.

NONE of the slower and inexpensive cars sell well in great #'s in the USA and little profit to be had. That being said the entry level exists for folks seeking that niche. Wait a few years and China will import their cars once they figure out crash testing on those tin cans.

No slower cars are even offered for sale any more and haven't been for decades. Of course they don't sell when they aren't even offered for sale!

What are you talking about? We have quite a few entry level, slow (by NA standards) cars such as Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Honda Fit, Chevy Spark, Ford Fiesta, Mazda 2 and they all sell very poorly when compared to bigger models such as Civic or Corolla. This is what the market favors and it shows in sells numbers.
What makes you think that even smaller and slower offerings would sell any better?

China might be able to engineer cars that pass crash tests, but I have got to wonder how long it will take, when in there own country, Buick and VW are the most popular cars.
