According to my owners manual, my 2008 Ford Edge takes 5.2 L (5.5 quarts) of oil. When I did an oil change last week, to get the dipstick up to the full line I had to add 6 L (6.3 quarts) of oil. I was using Quaker State Ultimate Durability with a FRAM Ultra 3600 filter. Is this ok?

Always go by the stick. Some engines drain more or less than was anticipated by the engineers, sometimes capacity is also increased by TSB with a new dipstick.

Some sites or specifications will include with or without filter in their assessment. They typically include the stock size filter in this "with filter" estimate. Using a larger filter will obviously increase capacity.

I like the Amsoil website as it has capacities in the application guide, i am sure other sites do too.

According to their site your Edge does take 5.5 quarts WITH filter. Since you are using the stock size 3600 filter i don't know why it took so much more than normal.

Did you fill to the top of the hash marks or the hole?
The hash marks are full, hole is max.
Not recommended to fill to the hole.
My wives Focus is dead on the top hash with 4.5 qts.
My Focus ST calls for 5.7 qt and that is pretty close, without
measuring out ounces.
If it took that much to put it on the hash or just above you will be ok, as others have stated.
My ST cold on the hash mark will be on the hole hot.
Jim
