I just bought a '73 Jeep which has a Turbo-Hydromatic 400 in it. This car has been sitting in a garage for 20 years. The gentleman who set it aside had put new fluids in it before storing it. I've gotten it running and have driven it a few slow miles.

Are current Dexron IIIs and such gonna be OK for this one?

Yep, DIII should be fine. FWIW, back in high school, my friend had a Camaro, 396, and the TH400. We installed a B&M shift kit, and the instructions called for type F for the refill. Dang thing would chirp the tires every time it hit second, and leave strips of rubber forever if nailed at a light.

Yep! I remember using Type F in my old GM trannys. Worked well in a TH350, nice firm shifts.

One guy posted over on the Ford forums that F was the best ATF ever made.

Wow, I wonder what would happen if I put some Type F in a modern AX4S transaxle?
