dexos 1 supersede, replace GM4718M specification?

There are thrifted dexos1 products and premium dexos1 products. I use the best oil available that is reasonably priced. Some are marketing inferior products at the same price point as licensed products while complaining about licensing fees making products cost more.

Remember, dexos only came out in 2011, and GM offers a 5-year/100k warranty.

Meaning, there are still pre-dexos cars under warranty until 2016.

They have to honor the warranty if dexos is used in a 4718M car to the full intervals suggested by the OLM. Did GM shorten the OLM's suggestions on Corvettes and Cadillacs in 2011? If not, then you can definitely trust a dexos blend.

Of course there is cheap dexos and premium dexos oils, but at the same time even the cheapest licensed dexos still meets the standards.

Question is, would you choose Pennzoil Dexos *blend* or would you choose Walmart's ST synthetic (not dexos but does say 4718M on the back)?

I'd probably go with the ST full synthetic over the PB in my Cruze Turbo even though it's not dexos1. I like a full syn. for the turbo...

What do others think of this question?

Ah, gotcha.

FYI, if the Impala was a 3.6DI pre Dexos1, it might have called for the Corvette spec as does my Cadillac CTS with the 3.6DI motor. It's a 2009 and it says all over 4718m and on the filler cap it says 5w30 Mobil 1. The DI's are tough on oil big time.
