I chagne my oil in my 02 dodge 1500 QC with the 4.7L magnum every 3k - 3.5k miles due to my driving habits. 80% of those miles are less 2 miles to work. I am looking for a more robust oil then the Valvoline Durablend I have been using. I like Valvoline but it is a unremarkable oil. its SL/CL rated so I'm confident it wil last the 3k miles but I want to maybe extend to 5k and no more. is Delo 400 a good alternative? Sugesstions? Oh, should mention i use 5w-30 winter 10w-30 summer. Not even sure if i can get a delo in a 30wt. Also keep in mind with suggestions im not interested in a synthetic so much as for me it might be a waist of money. due to short drain intervels.

I think the delo is the best dino oil you can use.
It is a 15w-40 which may not work for you if you live where it gets real cold. Here in North Carolina it is no problem. I am using this oil in my sons Mazda Millinia as he had some consumption issues and it has solved them so far.
We plan a auto-rx cleanning of the engine as he has 100,000 on it. I also plan to try this in my toyota that has 250,000 and now uses 20w-50 Castrol GTX. It is getting the auto-rx treatment also. I am hopefull it will not burn-up as quickly as the Castrol but time will tell. The delo has the best additive package for the money in a regular dino oil.

Your biggest problem is water and fuel contamination of the oil. I do not see a how any oil would make it to 5k with so many short trips.

Since the Delo is 15w40,I would use the Chevron 10w30 and use your brand of filter that is the equvalant of the Fram PH8A.

I use 15w40 Quaker State and the SuperTech ST8A filter in my '02 Dodge 4.7 quadcab and it's doing well.I've noticed that QS is not at Wally Mart anymore,so I may have to switch to either Delvac or Delo 15w40.
