I placed an order on the 16th for some ground wire for my noat trailer and they still haven't shipped it out. Anyone else buy from them?

I order from Del City as part of my day job and have never had in-stock items take that long to ship.

If the "in stock" check mark isn't there, or you need more than one roll/piece of whatever, contact Del City and check stock levels. They can have one piece of whatever in stock and thus show in stock, and if you order ten pieces then you see the issue.

The lady that answers the phone doesn't have a clue. She said it was supposed to go out Friday when I called on Friday. Now she's saying it it's shipping out today. I don't see an in stock check mark anywhere. Must be something I should have looked for when I placed the order. Sounds like it was shipped from the distributor and just arrived at their warehouse today to be shipped out to me.

Like I said, quantity matters too.

Or someone bought the stock ten seconds before you did.

Or their stock was wrong.

Or a million other things.

They should have been communicating all of that with you. I don't expect that they did, but they should have.

Stock level inaccuracy is a big issue with many companies, particularly on bulk stock items in the warehouse. The MRP system may say there is 10,000 feet of wire in stock, and then each order debits from that amount. Over time, there may be some waste or what have you, and by the time the roll gets down to the bottom, the count is off.

Are there no local electrical supply houses anymore? I've been retired for ten years but surely things haven't changed that much.

I dont know. This is marine grade tinned wire. Half the cost of the local west marine. Im not in a rush for it really, just dont usually have this happen.

They cost more, they don't have stock and will have to order it in, usually they want you to go there and pay before they order, then they'll order it, then you come back again in 10 days to two weeks to pick up your order.

Or you can buy online, pay less, and have it delivered to your door.

25% percent cheaper skipping the retailer

I've never heard of an electrical supply house not having every wire size available all the way up to 750 mcm. Even the box stores carry wire and cable.

Don’t get me started on bulk house inventory at auto parts store.

I imagine a place with hundreds or thousands of bulk rolls is going to be even more difficult to manage than maybe 20 types of hose on a roll?

We have a lot of lakes here in Kentucky so anything needed for underwater is or at least was easy to find. Believe it or not I once saw a diy guy use indoor Romex out to his boat and we've had a few deaths over the years from unsafe work around the boat docks.

I figured with all the changes in the last few years brick and mortar stores were carrying less stock. Looks like I got out of the business at the right time.

The most commonly used sizes and specs, you bet. Anything even slightly out of the ordinary, nope it's at the distribution center. Maybe.
