We are looking for a very good 30-40 pint dehumidifer for part of our home. We are looking at Soleus and Comfort-Aire. Does anyone know anything about those two or of another brand that might be better?

Make sure to check out the choices on the Energy Star website. There's a range of efficiencies, in pints per kw-hr or something like that. These machines use 500-750 watts when operating, which over ten years can add a lot to your electric bill.

We have a Soleus unit that only uses about 300w. I attached some plastic tubing that runs to a drain. Otherwise you WIlL empty that sucker at least once a day. It's very quiet and has completely dried out my 1300 sq foot basement.

if they take that much power you might as well run the a/c for a few minutes a few times each day.. it does the exact same thing as a dehumidifyer and you dont need the inital purchase price of a new unit.
