This is impressive, 9023m = 9867 yards / 5.6 miles. I also know that this record has been broken again by a large margin, but so far is not public knowledge. I will update when it is available.

Land in northern Alberta.

The well is located in the Saxon field within Alberta's Greenview Municipal District, targeting the Montney Formation. Which is a major unconventional location known for significant reserves of natural gas, natural gas liquids and condensate. this specific well is primarily for natural gas production. The Montney is a stacked, tight formation that requires advanced horizontal drilling to access hydrocarbons efficiently

I'm guessing TVD (true vertical depth) is around 3000m or a bit less on these?

Sakhalin (used) to hold ERD records
ADNOC holds them now with XOM and Halliburton technical support
Since shale - likely 50 wells past 30k feet in the US
