Debating a cocktail for my next change...thoughts?

Actually the RL 0W-XX oil range is just one oil with different polymer levels to make up the three grades. The 0W-20 contains no VIIs, the 0w30 just a pinch and the 0W-40 a fair amount but it's still very shear stable. So it doesn't matter if you use the 0W-20 or 0w30 in blending to acheive an oil with a HTHSV between 3.2cP and 4.0cP, the VII content will be the same.

BTW, RL 5W-40 is not a grade I would buy, not just for it's lowish VI but also because it contains no moly; it's really a deisel use oil.

Let the OP have his fun.

I have a 5 qt jug in my garage that is 3/4 qt pyb. 10-40, 1/2qt walmart syntec 10/30, 1 + 1/2 qts rotella t6 5-40, 2 qts 5-20 MotoCraft, some castro synthetic 10/40, some mobil1 0/40,.

all left overs from about 10 different oil changes.

Gonna put it in my wife's Ford Explorer in a bout a month or so. it will be my spring summer oil change. I'm not trying to prove anything just gonna have some fun with it. it's supposed to have 5/30.

Just for giggles, you should send it in for a VOA. Just call if Frankenblend.

I wonder if they have a test for Crisco? Would it mess up their results?

I've been running a cocktail myself for the last two oil changes while doing Kreen treatments.

My Honda 1.6L calls for 5w30 and since Kreen thins the oil I needed to thicken it up. I run 2 qts of PYB 10w40 and 1.5 PYB 5w30 along with 12 oz. of Kreen. The motor loves it.

Just for the record, Mobil also mentions you can mix/blend all their oils together with no ill-effects.

Why no M1 blend? Member 'eiron' got great results with an M1 0W-40/15W-50 blend he ran in a turbo Saab.
