Just got an email from a local GMC dealer in San Diego CA. I do my own oil changes but I think this is a decent deal especially in CA.

It is a great deal. Likely they are trying to get customers in, and upsell

That's it exactly. Also, I'll bet that that Dexos Synthetic Oil is coming out of a 55 gallon drum, and not a identifiable, sealed jug. Once they get a car up on the lift, that $67 oil change is going to turn into a whole lot of, "you need this and that".

It's the same way all of these brake shops work. The big sign out front of "Just Brakes" say's $99.95 for a complete brake job. I would love to know how many people got all 4 wheels done for that price?.... My guess is a grand total of none. Once that car is up on the lift, it's the equivalent of setting the hook in a Largemouth Bass..... With 200 pound test line.

Also, I wonder how much the "Hazardous Waste Disposal Fees" are? Most likely it's additional profit for them by selling the used oil to be rerefined. Just like AutoZone does, along with all the rest. They're certainly not going to collect that oil out of the goodness of their hearts. Then turn around and have to pay someone to take it.

In the dead of winter when I don't want to do it myself, my local independent shop charges $69 for 8 quarts of 0w20 synthetic out of a 55 gallon drum and a filter.

Don't see how this is close to a decent deal for a DIY-type. You can get six quarts of quality synthetic oil for 30 bucks and a filter for five bucks. Do it yourself, do it right, and save almost 50%.

The oil change is not really the expensive part. It is the "Complementary Safety Check", the "Down the Rabbit Hole" that results from that inspection, and the possible resulting "Wallet Flush" that can be costly.
Just say "no thanks". I guess there must be enough people that say "yes" to enough stuff, to make up for the people that never come back?
Once the Subaru advisor started talking about needing new rotors and pads on our hwy driven car, with 40k on it, and wouldn't service them because the weren't done at 20k, it was too much BS for me to trust them on an actual problem.... $900 for the front axle alone! I serviced the brakes myself and the pads were actually done 2 years later .at 70-80k...

I think some dealer service locations are getting desperate. With things as it is in the world, I wonder if people are foregoing maintenance or finding cheaper alternatives. I got a coupon for a free oil change from the Toyota dealership a while back. Not gonna use it, but I figured they’re pretty hungry for work and trying to get people in the door.
