Hi,

Over the last number of weeks our internet connection has seemed to be pretty slow (768k dsl so it was never a speed demon, but it was good enough.

Over the last few days, it appears that we have been having our WAN connection dropped. I have NEVER, since 200 when I first got DSL, seen this happen before.

Im running DD-WRT on an ASUS 520 router. It is running v24 mini software, which is dated 5/24/08. I have the router reboot once a week for good measure, but cant reall reboot the modem, which was supplied by verizon.

When this happens, usually the WAN IP address goes away for a few minutes, then comes back. The modem shows all lights for this time. I have in the past unplugged and replugged the modem, but this does not seem to really help - maybe it does, maybe it does not. Certainly does not provide long-term service like it used to.

Ive tried using the "connect" button on the DD-WRT software, but at best it gives me an error that says that something is disabled. Also, messing with the connect button seems to take the router out for a few seconds, as it drops connection to my computer and I then have to manually re-establish the connection over wifi.

Any thoughts? Is this a sign that my dsl modem is flaking out? Is this just bad service from Verizon? I know at times cable internet used to be horrible service-wise, and it would take hours to get a connection back. This is shorter interrupts than that, but it is still pretty lousy...

Thanks!

Connect directly to the modem and bypass the router to see if you still can get a connection during the times when your WAN is unavailable. If the DSL modem is losing signal it should show some error lights or the SYNC or signal light should go away.
