Are these Dayton tires from Walmart any good? I got a set of their finest, cheapest tires for a car I'm putting together for my sister. Bought them Saturday and one already randomly lost all its air.

Removed it, pumped it up to maybe 5 psi, found no leak*, took it back, they replaced it with a new one under warranty. (I know it's new; it still has the rubber peach fuzz.) Now I don't feel so smug about them, but is this randomly isolated or has anyone else had an unusually terrible (for the price) tire from Wallys?

*Didn't want it blowing up in my face

Dayton is the discount brand from Bridgestone/Firestone. I've never used them personally, but they are probably a good value.

The Wal-marts around here don't sell Dayton tires, they sell Douglas tires. They are decent at best, and you can get a Goodyear tire for a few bucks more that's 10 times better.

I would say faulty air valve stem before blaming the tire. Although, its possible the bead was damaged when they tried to mount the new tire, thus letting out all the air.

But dayton, well since they are a cheaper bridgestone, i'd trust them over some other inexpensive tires.

Walmarts around here sell tires from at least 2 different manufacturers. The Ulysses series of tires are made by Kumho, and the Wintermark tires are made by Kelly-Springfield.

Whoops, they're Douglas, not Daytons. Here's hoping they turn out decent.

Douglas is the Wal*Mart private label brand made by the Kelly-Springfield division of Goodyear. I'm not a fan of most Goodyear tires, and I've had some really light-duty Kelly private brand tires. Those Douglas tires are probably OK for light duty.

I had Dayton A/T tires on my Ranger and put 80K miles on them before going below 5/32" . I rotate every other oil change.

Here is a site where you can find out who makes what brand of tire..

www.tireaccidents.com/private_tire_brands.htm

And this site will tell you from the DOT code which factory and when they were made..

www.unionlabel.org/dobuy/tires.asp

I bought a set of Summit (Kelly/Goodyear) tires size 225/60HR/16 and they feel better than the GY Eagle RS/A V rated tires I removed...Not quite as crisp, but MUCH smoother and quieter.
