Daylight savings

I like DST, and would happily have it year round...but as others have said, changing traditional times for start, lunch finish would have the same effect without changing the clocks.

The Power Station operators for instance on a 12 hour shift, one shift gets 12 hours pay for an 11 hour night shift, and 6 month later, another shift get 12 hours pay for working 13 hours as the clocks change.

Funnily, was reading this last night, and it makes sense.

I much prefer Daylight Saving time. Having Daylight later in the evening, gives me a chance to do lots of things I otherwise couldn't after sunset.

Down here, 30°N of the equator, it doesn't make any sense. It's still light at 9:45pm! During the 10:15p news cast, the Summer temp > 90°F.

It would be nice to have more daylight in the evening Winter than during the blazing hot Summer. There's a reason Arizona "doesn't do" DST. Texas ought to join them. Markey in MA. was a big proponent of extending it due to his location.

They tried that around 1973, in response to the energy crisis, in an attempt to reduce electricity usage in the evening. The schools made enough noise about kids going to school in the dark that they had to repeal DST during winter months.

Again, they were simply cutting off the top bit of blanket and sewing it to the bottom.

yeah he was a jerk... especially in regards to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

if anyone had any brains, they would look at the sunrise sunset times.
if dst did not exist, you same people would be complaing how its daylight out at 4am.
dst does not save light or make your day longer or shorter , it balances the time between sunrise and set around the 24 hr clock especially in the northern lattitudes

Our dogs absolutely refuse to observe the time shift. Last fall their dinnertime went from 5:00 PM to 4:00 PM. I guess their dinnertime is back to 5:00 PM.

The doggies breakfast came a little early today. They seemed a bit confused, but they were OK with it.

We should just be on daylight time all the time. Do away with the standard. I won't care that it doesn't get light until 8:30 in the winter.

The one thing I hate is that people will call out times (on voice mail greetings, radio, etc) in "standard" time now, when we're no longer on it.

In the summer here, it is pretty much daylight at 4:00 a.m., and we're on permanent DST. Far north in the province in the summer, it's daylight after 10:00 p.m., too.

I'm glad we don't switch clocks. All the talk about farming is amusing. My dad never used an alarm clock on the farm. It got light out and he got up, and then he got me up. It didn't matter if that was 4:00 a.m. or 8:30 a.m.

+100 on this. It doesn't save any energy, and kids still have to go to school in the dark.

Not to mention it was *lighter* at 6:30 or 7:00 last week, when the school buses are clogging up traffic, *before* the time change. Now that period is dark. Tell me how this is supposed to work again? I'm confused. . . .

I'm not a fan of daylight savings.

No sunlight before kids start their walk to school is a bit much. It makes my commute through my neighborhood and past the schools that much more dangerous; I don't want to be the guy waiting for the ambulance because a child jumped out from behind a car parked on the side of a dimly lit street.

I drive slow, but a 3200 lb object moving at 10-15 mph is going to ruin your day.
