My 19 year old daughter was wondering why her tire failed all of the sudden 1/4 mile from home…….

I think she whacked it out severly of alignment in last month or so.

🤞 there are some old stock still around of Made in Russia Nordman tire(budget Nokian) and an alignment can fix it.

That looks like it wore evenly until the event that lead to the wires showing. I'd expect more scuffing, feathering, and cupping from a long-term alignment issue.

This is why we started all driving lesson sessions with a check under the hood and a walk around vehicle inspection. 100% sure none of it stuck, though, and my daughter would be asking the same thing, LOL.

I think it was steel, I cut my hand pulling tire off as the band was on in

The other tire on opposing is about half worn and matches other tires. The tire pressure light did not illuminate till it finally let go.

I am not sure what would cause this kind of (even) wear.

Was it the drive tire, i.e. the front passenger wheel? My guess is she's been spinning that tire a lot combined with a slight alignment issue.

She hit something hard enough in the last month to put something that far out of alignment and didn't notice an issue with steering wheel or something else? If the other tires still have 1/2 tread, that's a crazy amount of wear since it's less than 2/32" left.

Maybe get her a tire depth gauge to go with the pressure gauge and show how to check monthly. Add the speak up that she hit something sooner to the conversation.

The other axle tire is similar in wear except wires not showing yet. Something is amiss as car was only driven about 3.5k miles since it’s March state inspection(at Tire/repair shop) and nothing noted on tire wear.

Regular shop that you use often that you trust? What do they inspect when they do in NH? Did you take it there and pick it up or someone else? Any notes on the bill/receipts?

My coworker just got NY state inspection and passed. She knows she needs tires. 3 of them are at about 3/32" and they passed it since it's above legal. They did tell her she should get before winter and had a "deal" on 3 Starfire tires for about $450 iirc. She passed on that deal and will get 4 good ones, probably all-weather version.

I see this and worse on a daily basis. People literally just drive and put gas in.
Wait..., you still may be to generous with your comment.

1. My 30 year old daughter called a couple of months ago saying all of her dash lights were lite up and she coasted to the shoulder on the nearby expressway. The dash lights were only on because the car had stalled. It was not fun adding some gas in it with cars whizzing by a few feat away after dark.

2. My wife ran out of gas about three years back but at least it was on a side street in daylight. The incoming call was like "I think I may be out of gas..."

They both got the lecture but only time will tell...

It finally had an appointment .

$325 later for two discontinued Made in Russia Nordmann Solstice tires and alignment.

Apparently it was 1” out of alignment on left wheel. They assume it hit something really hard….

And she didn’t have to fight the steering wheel like arm wrestling to drive in a straight line?
