Date Code

Ok guys, I need to vent a little. Between car shopping and buying many new and/or used tires recently, I found myself having to check production dates on many tires.

How hard would it be for tire manufacturers to print the date code on both sides of the tire? Especially important on directional (asymmetrical) tires! Heck, I had to remove wheels or jack the car up so that I can stick my head where I can see the date.

I'm sure some others will agree with me.

Or for the installer to put the proper side out.
Unlike my first set of GY's. But they were just a fustercluck in every conceivable way.
Crucial on LL tires like the Michelin Defenders...

I keep a mirror in my toolbox for such instances.

I can sympathize, but it is a bit more difficult that you might think. A guy has to stand up in a hot mold to change the plate. Not only is it hot, but it is a bit dangerous, and there's the possibility of contamination. I wish there were an easier way.

Come to think of it, there is an easier way, it's just a matter of waiting for the technology to catch up.

But they don't change the plate on the mold every tire. They do that once a week only right?

Yes, but the plate is on the bottom of the mold and the guy can stand outside the mold to perform the operation.
