Couple weeks ago they made off with my Weber Charcoal grill. $140 to replace it

Mum and Dad used to have a gas grill (actually, a gas barbeque) that had a stupendously heavy jarrah (western Oz hardwood) frame. It was seriously hard to manouver 20 feet.

We came home one afternoon and the Jack Russell terrier was playing up trying to get attention (lassie style). Took us a while to work out that he was trying to show us that the BBQ had walked away during the day.

Pettiest things I've had stolen are a bunch of copied tapes from my car, and another occasion 4 litres of mower fuel.

When I had the engine in my dads truck torn apart I left the hood open one night. His optima yellow top deep cycle/starting was gone the next day.

Weve had some other random stuff disappear that was out front, but I still cant break my step mom of leaving her truck unlocked with the keys in it.

The most expensive thing anybody ever stole from me was a camera bag with about 6 grand worth of gear -- a cat burglar came through the window while I was taking a shower. He left through the door. Bastrat left something for me, too: a key fob that said "Cliffhanger" on it.

The most inconvenient theft was when I parked my pickup on the first floor of a Woods Hole parking garage on the outside wall when we spent a week at the island the my aunt (ahnt - ants show up at picnics) and uncle maintained for the Forbes family. I went to start it and nothing. Someone had taken the battery. Not all that bad in itself, except that they used the economy of cutting the cables to aid in the extraction. Luckily, my cousin (old enough to be an uncle), lived not too far away and took us to a Noowingland autoparts store that BONED ME LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE. The thief was kind compared to the prices I paid. They presented the battery ($85 - these are 1976 dollars, folks) and 6volt battery cables (hefty gauge ..but top $$). I happened to have a friend who opened an autoparts house and knew that his Deka line batteries were MAX $59.99 retail. When I said that the sales guy just smiled. This was a maintenance free battery ..but it had regular removable caps. He did refund $3.50 when he realized that he couldn't charge for the acid (typically added by the shop buying the battery - back then).

Being robbed and held up in the same day. It wasn't a good one.

About 10 years ago someone broke into my grandparents' Jeep and stole ONLY the glove box door. Left my grandma's purse, radio, everything else.

In SoCal I lived in a condo that had an ocean view but was also right off of I5, before I5 was busy 24/7. One day I go into the garage and found a note on the bike, saying that they had run out of gas, no stations were around, so they took about a gallon, left $5, and said that they were sorry and hoped it was ok. It was.

No harm ..no foul. There's no mandate that says you have to call it a violation. Good balance, 1sttruck.

A 4-runner full of high school kids sought out to steal my neighbor's very dead, discarded gas grill last year. My clue was a bunch of loud kids as I turned on my bathroom light and heard, "I think somebody's in that house."

I ran out to the alley and they took off at speed with no headlights on. An hour or two later, the grill was dropped off on the opposite side of the alley.

Only problem was, these idiots took my licence plate number through their cell phone while idling outside my pad while they "returned" the grill. I told the dumb neighbors to watch out for their own stuff and they didn't care.

Kids never came back, I guess I scared them while lurking in the alley while sitting on my hood with a beer in my hand and a bad attitude look in my eyeballs as they drove by after they "returned" the grill. No trouble since then.

I wanted to throw the bottle at them, but never had to.

I knew a guy in Florida who had a big upright freezer. The compressor was gone ant it wiuld trip the circuits in the house and sometimes spark.
He bought a new freezer, but couldn't get anyone to haul off the old one. They wanted 50-$75 to haul it away.
He wheeled it out to the curb and put a "for sale-$300" sign on it.
About 2 am he heard someone loading it on their truck. He waited until they had it in the truck, then turned on the lights and yelled "Hey, what the h___ are you doing"? They peeled out and you could hear them shifting and accelerating through stop signs for miles.

I should try that trick with my old washing machine and see if it happens to get "stolen". Although whoever takes it would probably dump it in a ditch once they figure out it was junk.
