Dana Closing Local Driveshaft plant.

not sure if this has hit the wider media yet, but the local Dana Driveshaft plant announced today they'll close the plant by the end of 2025.
news article says production will be moved to other plants in the US...

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Dana Incorporated says they will be closing the Lima facility in 2025.
The company has confirmed that they are moving the production from the Lima plant, located at 777 Bible Road Lima, Ohio, to other plants in the United States by the end of 2025. The union workers were told about the move this morning. The plant has been in operation since 1970 and manufactures drive shafts for trucks and commercial vehicles.

We have reached out to Dana for further details, and will update when information is provided.

Dana has been struggling for a few years now so this was not a surprise but not a good thing. Glad they are keeping the work from that plant in the USA.
 
Dana's struggling now is not surprising or anything new. They have been struggling for the last 25 years.
They were the company that produced the frames for Toyota and GM trucks that rusted-out. Toyota won a $25 million lawsuit against them (they would have gotten more had Dana not been in bankruptcy), Toyota changed frame suppliers, and Dana got out of the frame business (costing 5000 jobs). This was totally Dana's fault having used non-spec substandard steel. GM ducked a bullet by changing frame suppliers on their GMT800 trucks, the previous GMT400 trucks had frames produced by Dana and they are known to have significant frame rusting problems.
 
How many jobs will be affected?
I grew up in Lima and used to make deliveries to this plant (and most others in the area). I was very surprised at the low # of people that worked there and want to say it was less than 150. I thought they only machined U-joints there and as I recall, the production machinery was fairly automated and high-output.
 
Wonder if EV's has anything to do with it. DENSO is a client of mine and they are phasing out alternator, fuel injection and starter manufacturing in TN.
 
GM pretty much doesn't use Dana/Spicer drivelines anymore because AAM, Ram doesn't either for the same reason. Jeep & Ford still do as they use Dana differentials.

Wasn't the Ford Ranger and Explorer also part of this?

I don't think that Dana supplied any frames for the Rangers or Explorers. From what I could find it appears that Tower Automotive (now called Autokiniton) supplied the frames.
 
I've been annoyed since they shut down the Expert site. Used to be able to plug in any BOM and get full specs
