Thatwouldbegreat- 15W-40, in the summer only, is like my last resort if this thing just won't hold oil...there is no possible way I'd use it in cold or even very cool weather, it is thick when cold. The 5W-40 is something I'm really considering. Rotella T "Synthetic" is cheap, it comes in gallon jugs, and it's readily available. I'll have to look at the cold and hot cSt vs. the diesel 10W-30 I've been leaning towards to see how it compares up. If it's close on the cold cSt end, I think we may have a winner.
The 20W-50 is probably too thick also for my tastes (if it's anything like the 15W-40, no way), but the 10W-40 HM is an interesting thought too. I'll have to check the hot and cold cSt of those against the diesel fills I've been considering to see how they stack up.
1040 WreckerMan- Yeah, these Aerostar's just keep going and going and going...really great van Ford used to make...just too bad the bodies rot away prematurely on them, otherwise I'm sure we'd still have - and be using - both of ours...now we're just down to one...
the_oil_dealer- 20W-50...yeesh, is the PCMO version as thick or thicker when cold as a 15W-40 diesel oil? If so, that's going in the last resort category...just way too thick when cold - I want flow up into the engine as fast as I can get it, with the only tradeoff being as high barrier add level as I can get cheaply.
hotrat- As far as I can recall, the oil never sees the driveway or drip pan, it burns off well before that..
