Second, I’m going to stand by the assertion that D1 G3 is not anything special. The Lubrizol tool, used correctly within a single manufacturer, shows it is inferior in most ways other than LSPI test to Dexos2. Since there are now Dexos2 (ACEA C3 based) oils with SN+ or SP additive packages, I see zero reason to go hunt for D1 G3 oils if your manual doesn’t call for it. If D1 G3 was so good, why does Cadillac eschew it for performance turbo DI engines? Every good gasoline engine from GM specs Dexos2/R. D1 G3 is an economy car engine oil spec and I’m sure cost sensitivity is a driver of this differentiation.
