Having had a three year break from really looking at much, and letting the Holden Service Centre maintain the Colorado, with the DMax, and life in general, starting to pay a bit more attention. Appalled at the loss of things like D1 ESP in the Oz market.

First service in the DMax coming sooner than I thought, started looking....have attached a copy of the manual recommendations...lots of choice.
Not towing, so will ditch the 15W40 ranges, all the oil companies want 10W-40s, with HTHS barely over the 3.5 anyway...so 5W30 it is.

Mileage was shocking for the first few tanks, but now, at 10,000km is getting just on 12km/l, 10% better than the VM engined Colorado....

Think I've narrowed the range down to this...

Hope the link works

Given the following:
- Dmax engines are not particular about the lubes used
- the list of "recommended" oils in that manual is a very large and broad one
- Penrite is a quality brand and would fit the application just fine

I'd say go for it; nothing wrong with that choice at all.

Thanks Dave, do you have data in the Isuzu 3.0s ?

www.gmdexos.com

Penrite and Caltex AU both have Dexos 2 products.
Your choice passes MTU 3.1 which is my benchmark.
Not published, but your HTHS is likely 3.6
Yep, the Colorado, I chased dex 2, and it's still something I chase.

The dmax world are enamoured with Penrite 10w40 enviro diesel...which Penrite say is 3.5 hths.

Oz has no 10w30 syns with the specs...so here I am...nice VI too eh ?

3.5 hths sounds low for 10w40.

Have a look at the Havoline/Chevron/Caltex products by downloading;

"Chevron Product Salesfax Digest 2023" www.chevronlubricants.com and of course they use their own base oils and www.oronite.com additive packages. HTHS #s are published.

Petro-Canada, now HF Sinclair, also publishes their HTHS #s, (slightly under reported) values.
Their product handbook can be downloaded at
www.lubricants.petro-canada.com
PC also has a downloadable catalog which lists product part numbers and package sizes.
Pet-Can is starting to use Afton additive packages here and there, a little birdie told me.

CK-4? I'd be inclined to run Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 personally, just given @Doug Hillary's experience with it, but I'm sure the Penrite product is also excellent.
Like I said, there's been a loss of what I consider to be some significant oils in Oz....

Delvac 1 ESP appears in mobil.com.au global datasets, but there's no path from the front pages to find it.. might not be available ?

Can get it on ebay from an importer...way huge bucks.

Mobil oils are now made by Ampol...

We used to have Caltex (affiliated with texaco), which are now rebounded Ampol, and the Caltex oils which were the chevron oils basically are gone.

There's more range than ever on the shelves, way more specialised, and many less options if that makes sense.

Getting a CK4 without it being a 15w40 mineral is tricky.

Do you have access to WalMart shipments from the States? Seems like they SHOULD be able to bring some in.

Unfortunately Amazon shows "OOS".

I'd think that Doug might have a line on them, but he hasn't posted in a while unfortunately. I know he was well connected with XOM. I do have his e-mail if you'd like me ask him?

Never mind Wal*Mart. You need a Canadian Tire in AU. Maybe call it Kangaroo Tire or Dingo Tire. DingarooTire.
The more you spend, the more Dingaroo money you'll have. Once I had $1,200 in Canadian Tire money.
My son needed another 300 Win Mag and Rem 700s were on blow-out for $700, or about $500 USD.
Last summer 15w40 T5 was on sale for C$80/ 5 US gallon pails on 30X bonus Canadian Tire money day, which saved another $10/pail.
I bought 6 pails and one guy loaded up 3 shopping carts.

We are spoiled in Canada and USA with lubricant prices and availability compared to the rest of the world.

So are you saying there is no 15w40 that has the needed spec anymore where you are from?
Ahhh, no....plenty of 15w40s....interesting that you could draw those words

In spite of prior reputation, I don't want nor need an HTHS over 4...and would prefer a syn.

That’s a shame that ya can’t get Delvac 1 ESP. it’s pricy enough here at China Mart and Rural King. Good to see you here sir 🍻👍

It was an honest question for the record.

Run what you'd like because a 10w40 would still work well in your rig.
