Cybertruck now priced starting at $75,000

Here is a video from a month ago that shows some closeups. It doesn’t look even close to a $75,000 truck. The interior is spartan.

Who decided on the position of the single windshield wiper? That looks bad and it’s a hindrance to vision. Stuff like that is a head scratcher.

Watching the video, it looks like the cybertruck has 4-wheel steering!

The $40K Cybertruk was single motor RWD. They have scrapped that configuration.
The dual motor version was originally slated for $50K, so even that number is a far cry from $75K.
The $40K version was vaporware. It would have to have a tiny battery with zilch mileage.
From a business standpoint, there is little incentive to make strippie vehicles with their strippie profit margins.
That and with inflation and the current car market any possibility of the $40k target became even more ridiculous than it already was.

This window panel gap from 2 separate angles is horrendous.

Nice paint scratch

Nice rubber stuffing there.

Elon's got problems alright.

The impression that I always got was that automakers went over vehicles that were going to be shown to the public with a fine tooth comb. They want everything perfect. They are constantly keeping them clean as well.

I don’t know what’s going on here but those defects are glaring. Someone at Tesla is not doing their job.

An Autoweek writeup on the cost to own an EV. They took into account the most common issues and generated a cost to own number for some specific vehicles that are available both ways.

Fits this thread perfectly, as the Cybertruck is no bargain, and the starting price is way out of my price range. If pickup trucks all become this expensive, only the wealthy or frivolous will own them.

As I read the article, the expensive EV's, such as the Kona, cost about $8K more per year, total cost of ownership, vs a gas equiv. The higher purchase price, coupled with depreciation are key reasons. Energy costs are not big factors.

It seems the EV tax credit saves the day, barely. Still a big NO THANKS for an EV for me. Bottom line do your homework, I did mine. ;)

It won’t qualify once the price hits $80k for trucks. That said I will continue to say a truck is a horrible platform for an EV.
My comments were based on the article. Regarding the truck, it would still be a hard no for me, tax credit or not. I do agree a truck is a horrible platform for an EV. Look no further than the Lightening, I'll refrain from further commenting about that or any FMC products in general.

No third brake light?

I find that article a bit problematic. It’s easy to say in the course of cars that are available as both. It’s easier to place them in the market. I will say I’ve always found KIAs EV pricing to be on the higher side.

Articles can be problematic for a number of reasons, one must do their own homework.

I still think a smaller truck would be ideal and by smaller I mean something along the lines of the original Datsun and Toyota trucks. Good for homeowners to get chores done and you are not stressing the battery range with heavy towing and hauling.
