I rewatched the vid and i think your right. the two edges of the media, with the mesh in between are glued together like other glued seams. So other than the tiny lip he could peal back, it should be completely sealed, like any other glued seam.
I guess being able to see the mesh threw me off a little.
when I first watched it I thought just the mesh was glued together.
