I mostly lurk around here but figured I post this filter as my own eyes have noticed the WIX XP filters are adopting old affina wix style parts and less Purolator black glue and baseplates being used. I've been buying some off Rock auto(which is only affordable way to buy them the parts store price is highway robbery) and cut this one open to confirm what inside looks like and was surprised it's actually good. Made in March 2025

It seems since XP filters switched to synthetic blend media instead of the rock catcher full synthetic media that was first upgrade and now I'm seeing affina wix baseplate being used which is upgrade #2 and the glue is a brown glue and not that crap Purolator black glue that didn't hold anything together that's upgrade #3 and the glue application was good. And upgrade #4 was using coil springs for holding media against adbv for consistent seal

I tried twisting end caps off but it held together I was really trying to get it to twist and fail

See pictures below for your own opinion but if these don't change my rock auto shipping I'll be buying some more.

Great job with write up. I am now currently using Mobil1 EP filters .. I do not live near an O'Riley's or any other filter that is BITOG "approved" for 5k mile intervals and Valvoline Restore and Protect.

I see no reason to ever use a MANN+HUMMEL product again after what I've seen going on for years. There are good filters out there for better prices. On top of that my local O'Riley's wants $16.99 for that filter what a super premium price.

Really don't see how they sell those filters at O'Relly unless they are on sale as they price them so much higher than everybody else.

Those are $8 on Amazon as of right now.. https://www.amazon.com/WIX-51348XP-Spin-On-Lube-Filter/dp/B00D0I59DC

This Mexican one looks good but you need to see a good amount of them showing consistency to trust IMO. Look at the Puro Gold's which you will see one good one.. like Whip City where he won the lotto and magically opened a decent looking one.. then you have several other Gold's that are pretty bad and then a couple more decent looking ones.. So there is definitely a high risk there.

Compare that to the ridiculous amounts of PG filters opened up on this forum that show incredible consistency on almost perfect QC so you have a rock solid basis to trust the brands under them.

Auto parts stores are ripoffs. They mark up everything. Wait for a sale at Walmart / Rock Auto / Amazon, then stock up. Works for me.
I'm always ordering off rock auto so that's the only way I'll buy these and were there half price vs auto parts store. Like I said the parts store price is highway robbery

That one looks good but it's one example. The ones I like would have the Purolator reinforced synthetic media. WIX has been going through a sort of evolution again but not much consistency or understanding of what they're really up to. Thanks for posting.

Amazon should have a much better price
While there I saw most Boss for $8, so bought two for each car. Add to the box of oil filters.
