L14477 Purolator Classic from 2864mi / 7mo on a 2002 Prizm (1.8L 1ZZ-FE). Lots of short trips in the oil burner.

One wavy pleat, next to where the filter paper seam is clamped. This is common and not just a Purolator thing.

Rest of the pleats look perfect. No tears or weirdness.

Nitrile ADBV was flexible. Marked "Parker". Debris on the bypass leaf spring thingy.

Filtration is happening. What is this cruft?!

Looks good although it definitely exhibits the pleat spacing that has caused problems in others. I am starting to see a pattern of tears in the higher OCI filters, so I can't help but wonder what this one would've looked like at 5k instead of less than 3.

As always, thanks for cutting and posting!

It has been on both but I've seen more Classics than Pure1's with tears.

It's been on both, but typically the Classics seem to tear more than the PureOne.

Yup, at first the tears were on Classics. And I was relieved as I had ordered 20+ P1s but then some tears were shown on the P1s as well.

As such, I've returned most of those P1s and exchanged them for Ultras. I still have a handful of the P1s and will use them for shorter OCIs.

Still it's good to see a Purolator with no tears, even if it is a shorter OCI. Hopefully someone can get Purolator to address the tears.

Purolator had been contacted by many members here reporting the media tears. If Purolator doesn't look into it, then they'll just be shooting off their own feet.

Using good oil is only part of the success. If the filter isn't any good then you can expect a problem. I like P1 but stick with OE or Mobil 1. However Iwill say the new Fram Ultra served me well. Wish I would have done a cut up and share to know the real truth.

This is a short run on the filter, which is one reason why it didn't tear.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Granted the one pleat near the seam doesn't look great, and being in the area of other recent tears that conclusion seems logical. Then again, without being psychic impossible to say with absolute certainty that it would have torn had it been run to say, 5k.

And since it's just one reason why it didn't tear, perhaps Purolator would be interested in the others so they could improve their QC to address the tears. I'd be interested in knowing the other reasons it didn't tear too.

To the OP, thanks for finding something cut your filter open with and posting pics. Nice clean job.

My torn filter is boxed up and going out to them today. They will have it tomorrow. Purolator was VERY interested in getting it back. I even gave them a link to my thread here so they could look at the pics.
