From my 05 Ram 1500 w/ 5.7L hemi. 3 months 9,964 miles, PP 0w-20.

Also sent in a sample for UOA, I'm not liking the signs of deposits in the filer, fist time I have seen that on a cut open from this truck. OCI included 1qt top up of same oil, so I doubt TBN will be depleted. Why the deposits?

Filter looks great. Deposits from engine I'm sure. What mileage and history on oil type interval? Is it possible the PP is cleaning better than previous fills breaking stuff loose?

usually under 5k OCIs... OCI previous to this one was PP 0w-20 4,500 miles and the UOA came back good, TBN 2.0.. cant remember if i posted that UOA or not. Dont remember oil types off hand, but was something always considered good by BITOG standards, which is why I doubt the deposits are from any cleaning action.

maybe 10k is just to long... anyway will have a UOA in about a week or so

Unless the engine is not very clean the filter after 10k miles looks like it can be used for another 10k miles.

These pictures clearly showed that Fram Ultra is hard to beat at any price. It's a bargain for less than $10.

10K shouldn't be too long with the mileage racking up that fast, but if the oil filter was doing its job then the insoluables rating on the UOA will be low. Anything near 0.1%-0.2% is excellent. The deposits are in the can, which is a good thing if they are there and not in your engine.

That filter is rated for 15,000 miles too, so i doubt its a problem there.

That's only 153 miles per day if working 5 days a week, or 109 miles a day if working 7 days a week.

My guess is a 5 day work week with a 50+ mile commute + lesiure?

secret.... :p j/k

100 miles one way to school, all highway, traffic runs 80mph on interstate unless there is a problem and it turns to stop and go, traffic runs 90mph on the toll road, 4 days a week sometimes 5, plus any other trips. Some towing/hauling...

^I wonder if that classifies as "severe duty"? :p

I would have lived on or near campus, but I have to good of a part time job here, plus its free to live with your parents.

In 1980 I met a life insurance salesman with a 1979 Cadillac. 120,000 original miles from making sales everywhere from Imperial County to Redding, out to Blythe and into Arizona too. He was based in Riverside. Most of his clients were dairymen or large-scale farm operators.

Another great looking Ultra...

I still hate the grippy stuff, but the F100 has one of these on it...

Fram has a winner with this line of filters...!

I agree, thats a great filter....

That's a great looking filter.

I admit that for a while I would not use FRAM oil filters due to the negative information that people posted on the internet in the past and also due to advice from different people to not use their filters. I was even advised at one time in the past not to use the FRAM Ultra filter I bought at AAP; thus, I returned the filter and exchanged it for a Mobil 1 EP Oil Filter (which was part of a Mobil 1 synthetic oil/oil filter special at AAP). After I did more research (and bought another one to have a look at it and try it out), I came to believe that the FRAM Ultra Synthetic Oil Filter is actually one of the best filters out there ... perhaps the best high end oil filter on the market, and it has a reasonable cost too. While I still am not a fan of the other FRAM oil filters, the FRAM Ultra is definitely one of my filters of choice now.

Fram Tough Guard is very good too, not as good as Ultra on the par with Wix, NAPA Gold ...

The filter looks great, the deposits look like some cleaning action from the oil. The oil analysis will tell. Hope you post the results!

I just bought a FRAM Tough Guard and plan to run it the next time I change my oil.
