This is the most recent filter off our 2019 RAM 1500 Sport with the 5.7L which sees mixed driving with a bias towards in town. Oil used was M1 EP 0w-20 and it was in there for 11,716Km (7,280 miles), changed when the OLM hit 0%.

Despite propping the ADBV open with a screw, there was still considerable oil in the can that flowed out when I cut it, making quite a mess. The media was clean of any debris, though there did appear to be some extremely fine "silt" in suspension in the oil sitting at the bottom of the can. These engines are pretty dirty birds, which is why AMSOIL has a TSB about them, and the GM LSx engines, not being able to run the filters for extended drains due to the particulate they generate.

Dent in the can is from the tool used to remove it, you can't get a cap or strap wrench on the filter due to its proximity to the EPS rack.

There was no oil added between changes.

Thanks for sharing. I have an Ultra in the queue to cut and post. Looks like the 5.7 is rough on oil/filters. I'm wondering how you feel the OLM functions? The one in my 15 F150 is meant to get a 10k OCI and is heavily weighted toward time.

The OLM in my father's 2013 Grand Cherokee 5.7L seems to be mileage based, as it always tries to get to 10k despite the time or use. Thanks for the cut and post OP, I run the same filter on the GC.

My understanding is that it uses operating conditions (hours, temperature...etc) to calculate it. First full OLM OCI was ~14,000Km, second was ~10,000Km, previous ~12,500Km, this one now ~11,700Km, so it moves around.

Man, that looks NASTY.
Yup, that's why I run M1 EP in it, an oil designed to be able to suspend, and keep in suspension, that contamination for the long haul. Even with the quench areas, HEMI's aren't "clean" engines, that's why they have dual ignition.

As I mentioned in another thread, some engines just aren't well suited for extended drains, this would be one of them.

The hemi oil isnt quite diesel black but its always very dirty when I change it. I've had other engines where the oil is still golden at 5000miles.. this isnt one of them.

I changed the oil in the 2020 ram (hemi) a month ago. It will go almost 10k miles with the oil life monitor.. but it sees 20miles each way commute and some longer trips of 50+ miles. almost no short tripping or city. Been using Rotella gas truck 5w20 and standard Wix filter.

I'm pretty sure at least for USA models it has a default max of 10000 miles and penalizes for various operating conditions.

My jeep works about the same but I feel overestimating as it has a similar algorithm for the port injected 3.2 at 10k and my turbo gdi at 10k... which one is harder on oil?

I usually change 3x a year at around 5000 miles. I have seen the OLM penalize esp in winter on the jeep. I was at 35% with 4400miles last year.

I wish they were more open about how the OLM is calibrated.. I find it somewhat odd that a jeep or hemi will go 10k on syn blend (mine requires full syn)

but other manufacturers such as hyundai say their port injected 40mpg car needs a change at 3750 miles for severe service which is 80% of the usa. Cold, HOT, winter salt, dust etc.

Yeah, that's a much easier on oil usage profile than what ours sees, which is far more in-town and short tripping.

Another XG2. I've got one left now.
I have 8 of them in my stash and what I’m currently running on my 6.4 in the 2500. A lot of the ones I have are in the new boxes but definitely have the wire screen backing as viewed through the center tube. Filter looks good.

So, if I may ask, who drives the Ram? Looks good everything considering. Thank You for professional, very detailed write up also 🇨🇦🍺

Predominantly my wife, though I drive it sometimes, particularly when I was going to the cottage. She drives the Jeep sometimes too.

Thank you for your kind words :)
