[cut open] Allison 29539579 spin-on filter for 1000 series transmission in Duramax

This is my first Allison filter cut at 8,000 miles:

I changed the spin on again today at 38,000 miles. Compare the first filter with 8,000 miles and 190 hours vs. this filter with 30,000 miles and 720 hours.

The filter body is impressively thick. Even with a good cutter, it takes about 10 minutes of twisting to cut it apart.

There was almost no clutch material or metallic debris in the filter. The Allison, when not abused, is impressively durable. In the last 30,000 miles, about 22,500 miles were towing our trailer with a GCVW of about 16,000 pounds.

I wouldn't have changed it had I known it looked like this - practically new. Maybe next time I'll change at 50,000, following Allison's recommendation.

It was factory fill, I assume DEX 6, until about 30,000 miles when I did a spill and fill with High Performance Lubricants TES-295. The result is a 50/50 mix of Dex 6 and TES-295.
