Current Jiffy Lube Pricing

[censored], we usually pay 29 bucks for a 5 quart jug or 5 single quarts of synthetic from Advance or Autozone (oil change special minus the filter) We buy Quaker State full synthetic in ecoboxes for less than 3 bucks a quart.

I hate the Jiffy Lube type places. At the VIOC place they told my wife she should replace her battery, like it has some kind of age limit. A battery is good until it's bad, you don't replace it at 36,000 miles just because. Thankfully she turned them down, but she did let them sell her an air filter even though the one in the car was only a couple months old. It looked dirty so she believed them that it needed to be changed.

The story about your wife is why I quit going to those places. I had sent the wife, specifically told her, don't let them upsell you.....they did. Got a new air filter for the one I had that was maybe 4 months old. She just couldn't say no. After that I decided, just do ALL the cars at once. If your organized, it's easy to do 2 cars in less than 45 minutes and when you do the math, a nice wage per hour saved. I figure 2 cars x the money saved per car comes out to about $80-90 per change. That's tax free, factor in another 25% for taxes and I am saving 110-125 for 45 minutes work. If I was a doctor.....not an issue but for the common guy, it adds up.

$113 for 6 qt of Blend and Tire Rotation at Jiffy? Ouch!

LOL when you can DIU for under $30 using full synthetiec and an upgraded filter.

I can't fathom going to JL or any quick oil monkey change place. Been doing my own for 35 years and only had one oil drip. Forgot the crush washer.

There are plenty of folks (here) who will disagree with you. Some replace their battery every two years (or three years, etc) as a routine maintenance item. Makes no difference if it tests 100% good.

It's funny, the air filter change is pretty darn cheap, unless the quality of the filter is poor. But the rest? No thanks!

Yep-My wife's 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL (3.3) is now over three years old. The battery will be replaced sometime in the next 12 months. The (possible) inconvenience waiting for it to "die" just isn't worth it.

I'd have to say in the Dallas area you are doing very well. Most batteries there are probably very lucky to see much over 4 years.

We live in a four seasons climate that sees extreme temp swings. We drive about 10-12K per vehicle in the past. I've been changing batteries every four years for three decades now. Ones I buy have cranking & storage power that meets or exceed the factory battery.

+1
Preventive maintenance is key to best ownership experience. Waiting until things break that are known to need periodic replacement leaves you stranded - sometimes in very inconvenient places and climates. Conventional lead-acid batteries (flooded cell) last 3-4 years. I change every 4 years. Period. You don't wait until they fail to replace - you use industry average lifecycle data.

I've been switching to AGM since cost has come down a bunch as they become more popular. Not quite sure if I should extend replacement period since these don't have plates to sulfate over time. They are known to last longer and provide more ampacity in cold temps.

I would stay far away from "Iffy Lube" ....way back about 30 years ago they changed my 1990 Camry oil and forgot to put on the filler cap....I drove off and the car started to smoke bad.....I pulled to the side of the road and opened the hood.....I had a few choice words for them but luck was on my side.....I turned round to go back and saw the filler cap on the side of the road.....I had a rag in the trunk to wipe off the grit put it back on and went to a service station ......I had "lost" about a quart of oil.....bought a quart .....and i was on my way ....the next day I went by Iffy lube to bi*ch about my filler cap and try to get a refund......all I got was 10 dollars off on the next oil change. I never went back to one again......

I can see a direct correlation between that and my (unplanned) excellent experience at a brand new one early this year.

How much do they charge to change the oil if you supply the oil, and don't tell them whether it's synthetic?

A few months ago at my local Jiffy Lube if you supplied all your own materials it was $40.00 for labor. It probably has gone up.

Is the $100 for the Iffy Boob synth change for only up to 5 quarts?

Yeah... learned that the hard way when I took my Durango there. The 5.7 hemi needs 7qts and I opted for the full synthetic before I saw the prices. Never been back. For ~$100 I can buy 15qts of the same exact oil and 2 Fram ultras or Mobil 1 filters and knock out both cars!

A quick look at Walmart shows ultra platinum on rollback for $20.97 for 5qts right now!

I live in Phoenix.....with 115 degree heat....no matter how expensive the battery is if you make it 3 years you are doing great ....most last 30 to 36 months....I replaced mine every 3 years....even if it test good .....you know when you least expect it....it going to die. Last time was after a trip to my Tempe Costco.....on a 112 degree June day after buying 100 bucks of frozen stuff we get back to our Highlander we had back then and dead battery....got a jump and made it home but all the ice cream had melted.

Wow, I'm saving quit a bit of money. I try to add all all my purchases with tax and have broken down it down by materials used, my time is usually 20-30 minutes. I change my brother's Hemi truck and do a full synthetic change with a Wix filter for $29.13. Wife's Durango costs $29.96 with a Fram Ultra, although less $18.96 when I change the filter every other change. My Diesel runs about $80 with Donaldson filter about every 10k. Glad I worked out in the garage with my father growing up.

They seem extra overpriced. You can get a synthetic oil change at the Mercedes dealer for $100 and that's with 8.5 quarts of oil and a car wash/snacks. The air filter is a good deal though, there's two on mine and go for over $15 online for the two of them.
