My 2021 Class C came with a Cummins/Onan QG4000 genset. It is gasoline and a really nice unit that has an elevation adjustment on the carb. Anyway, here is my question.....

I have purposefully run the genset for 3.0 hours, just to break it in. Today I dumped the factory fill and in the sunlight, I had the most spectacular metal reflection show of any factory fill oil I have ever dumped. I am thinking the reason is.... this little engine does not have an oil filter and no magnetic drain plug. I am sure glad I dumped the oil and poured in some fresh happiness.

Anyway, I have always dumped factory fills on everything I own really quickly. I am just wondering if dumping the factory fill on a small engine that has no oil filter is probably a really wise thing to do, even more important than an engine with an oil filter?????

FWIIW.... Rotella T6 went back in.

I agree, changing oil is the most robust way, but you might want to try a magnetic dipstick and/or drain plug to help as well...

Just my $0.02

Yes... change the oil early and often on a new small engine. without an oil filter, dumping the oil is the only way to get that break-in glitter out.
I agree. Change the oil early and often. If I had your GE set I’d change it again in 3 hours and add a magnetic drain plug. I rather the metal be stuck to the drain plug. Enjoy.

I added a magnetic dipstick to my little Honda generators. They do pull out some fine metal 'dust'.
I clean the magnet every time I check the oil before each use. There is always a little something on the magnet.
