I just took off my Pureone filter and the side of the case was crushed. This is the second time its happened with purolator, once with a regular purolator, and once with a P1. No other filters have done this to me, even frams. Any idea what is causing this and is it harming the filter any?

thanks.

Cutting it open would tell you much more about its condition than our guess work here. If the end caps were distorted, likely it was leaking. Hope you don't find a crushed element or media torn away from the end caps.

What other filters have you used? Some have heavier cans. I blithely continue ST's on my truck, never remembering a damaged filter in over 40 years of driving. Some filters are more vulnerable to road damage than others.

Hmmm...this is odd. You put it on and you take it off and you're sure you're not doing the damage. Did I get that right

What are you driving over ..or who are you lending your car to??

What's this on, anyway?

Oh ..yes, this hurts the filter. Not necessarily in terms of filtration (which is surely possible as labman suggested) ..but from the metal fatigue from flexing the metal as the pressure varies

Its on a 2002 GM Sonoma. Ive used ACdelco, fram, fram TG, purolator, and P1. I know its not hitting anything, because the filter is in a nice little "cubby" in the engine.

However, the more I think about it, the P1 does have a thiner case on it. Chances are its just me doing the damage when I take it off. I will check this one from time to time, and right before i take it off to see if it is damaged.

Sorry for the dumb question, I should have thought about it first.
