CrossClimate2 105 load rating (XL) vs 102

Time for new tires on our 21 Honda Pilot 245/50R20. Costco is temporarily out of stock of the 102 load rating and only has the XL version in stock.

Would there be a noticeable difference in ride with an XL tire vs a regular 102 load rating? I don't mind waiting another week or 2 or going to Discount Tire if necessary.

   • Load Index: 102 (1,874 lbs per tire)
   • Regular sidewall construction (no XL designation)
2. Tire #1823626: 245/50R20/XL
   • Load Index: 105 (2,039 lbs per tire)
   • XL (Extra Load) designation, indicated by "/XL" in the size

I always go XL. The loss of comfort won't be noticeable, or that noticeable. You will get bit sharper response, and with SUV's, stronger sidewalls, especially on 245/50 is always better.

I would go XL everytime. Built to withstand more is always better. Loss of ride comfort will be slight on your Honda, as it is sprung fairly soft.

Most tire stiffness comes from the inflation pressure, so the effect a stiffer sidewall has is pretty small.

The 102v has been discontinued. Michelin consolidated the line to fit a broader application and reduce MSPN's. You would never know the difference driving on them.
