Crankshaft seals on vintage 2 strokes

FF to 12:12 .

I fully understand this is a 4 mix engine and not a 2 stroke, but I restored a 1980's vintage echo SRM-2200 and just so happend to score a NOS seal and gasket kit from ebay. Not only that, but the seals are still avail.

I have a lot of vintage 2 stroke OPE, and a vintage 2 stroke motorcycles that seals are NOT avail anymore. Before my selas do what these in the video did, is there any additives to preserve them?

I'd say most of the seal hardening is caused by heat. Not much you can do to prevent that.

The plasticizers that make the material springy will outgas, just like it does in your car. I have heard of people soaking such items in something to restore them a bit.
