same 2008 CR-V, owned by a relative of mine. wondering what differences are made to the current CR-V that requires 0W20 oil? Cause if there are no diffrences to the engine, then i will have no worries running a 0W20 in her car. is it for fuel economy reasons? I just want to be absolutely sure its ok to run this oil. i picked up 5 quarts of toyota 0W20 for 5.45 a quart today, and if its not ok for the CR-V, i have other vehicles which spec it. Ive heard its the lightest of the 0W20's on startup, is it too light for the CR-Vs engine?anyone run the toyota oil to be specific, in a CR-V, that called for 5W20, without any problems?

The latest Honda oil application chart states that it is OK to run 0w-20 in all Gen 3 CRVs:

that is reassuring. thanks for the chart. so it does not matter if i use a thin 0w20, such as the toyota oil, or a thicker one such as mobil 1, as long as its a 0W20 it should be fine? and i know VI is viscosity index, but what exactly does it mean when yall say the toyota oil has a high VI? is it good or bad?

Honda specifies the correct oil based on the API and ILSAC service ratings. The high VI craze is not applicable to every application. A high VI oil may be more susceptible to more engine deposits from VII breakdown.

Viscosity index is simply a property of the oil, just like kinematic viscosity, pour point, color, etc. An oil with a higher viscosity index will thicken less as it cools. Obviously, this is beneficial to your engine. How beneficial, and is it worth the cost to you? That is something that only you can decide.
Any 0W-20 or 5W-20 is fine. I've been using 0W-20 in our 2008 CR-V for many miles; runs fine. Though because of cost, I will use a conventional 5W-20 next.
