I had to chance to use my new Longacre filter cutter and it worked like a charm. Here is another CarQuest Blue made by Affinia (WIX) from my Powerstroke. I am more than pleased with the quality of these filters I grabbed from Rock Auto for about $4.50 each to the door--these things are built like a tank. They far exceed the construction of Motorcraft filters (FL-2051s) for the same application. The ADBV valve was very pliable with no issues. With all of the talk these days about louvers in the center tube, it is nice to see that WIX knows how to manufacture them. The Gold Plug magnetic drain plug had very little material on it and another CQ Blue (made by Clarcor this time) replaced it. This run was with Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 and Chevron Delo 400 XLE 10W-30 went back in. This filter is from the run I made on a vacation to San Diego and Las Vegas and saw 249°F oil temperatures for a good part of the way.

Enjoy!

Looks good. I feel like I went through a louver worm hole ...

I just cut open the Clarcor version of this cq filter which surprisingly enough don't have the louvers like typical baldwin/hastings filters I'll post pics once it drains some oil off the media

The Clarcor I cut open when I received the first batch from Rock Auto did not have louvers either:

I am interested in seeing those myself--they **seem** to be solid, but the efficiency is unknown and Sure Filter never responded to my request asking for the efficiency ratings.

Yup, that is why I use WIX-made filters. Yeah, my NAPA Golds come out good after 5000 miles (That is 400+ hours if folks don't know that 5K is a lot) on my 6.0PSD twins. Now only if I could have a repair budget enough to patch their "automatic oil change" issues... but they are at the end of their lifecycle for my use at nearly 12,000 hours.

Looks fantastic. The thick media reminds me of a Fram Ultra. I was very impressed with the older Carquest Blue that I cut open from my Firebird as well.

I agree that it looks good but I wouldn't expect anything less for that application. I'm not familiar with CQ filters...are the "regular" CQ blue filters for cars built like that (with wire backing), too?

I am not sure because Car Quest filters are rebranded. I think FRAM is the current provider. The ones I have are made by Affinia (WIX) and Clarcor (Baldwin), both of which are wire backed.

No wire backing on the car Blues, just synblend media ala M1. They've had lots of manufacturers:Baldwin/Clarcor, then Affinia/Wix, then Champ/Fram, & now the black Puro/M&H

Thanks for the info bullwinkle.

WOW I'm surprised the Clarcor/Baldwin/Hastings CQ has round holes

Hastings was the first to use the slotted tube, and they are still the best at louvers by far.
