So it's 0W-40 in everything!!!!

Ignore manufacturer's recommendations.

Castrol 0W-40 is great stuff.

I use it all the time in two of my BMW's.

But I'll stick with 0W-20 in my Toyotas because it works well there and does deliver good responsiveness and good fuel economy.

Bad analogies and now attack the strawman. Nobody said to use 0W-40 in everything. The OP has a 96 Civic in California with 150k on the clock. He got some fantastic synthetic oil for this fine piece....on sale. OP - Use it without worry and filter out this noise. Jeez, it's not like he's trying to use a non-approved oil in a new Ferrari.

I can sympathize with this view. I had an opportunity to get some oil free after rebate but I had to go with a grade heavier than usual. For the next 3 years I didn't particularly like the oil.

And your Ferrari analogy is ridiculous hyperbole.

His vehicles have been working well on the 5W-20 he has been using.

So why not continue that?

Civic has 152k on it so I doubt a 40 weight oil would make a big difference when it originally wanted 5w30. Well see at next oil change though.

Only if you drive it within the limits of the chosen viscosity...the lubes he used could never allow the engine to be used to it's full operating envelope.

Regular oil in motorcycles with wet clutches causes slipping because of the friction modifiers. At least that's what I've learned. I had an old Honda Goldwing that had the heads rebuilt, so I wanted a cheap oil to flush everything. Took it for a ride and the clutch was slipping bad with throttle. Was worried it was no good. Dumped it and put in motorcycle oil and there was no more slipping. After that, I use either HDEO or motorcycle oils.
