Could we discuss other brands please.......

Well, I still have 2 cases of Motul E-Tech 0w40(had several 5ltr jugs of the discontinued Motul 6100 Synergie 5w40, all gone)..but thanks to my growing stash of GC, that oil won't pass thru any oil galleys of my engines anytime soon.

How many oil choices do we really need? Most people have a hard time deciding anyway and WANT to change it frequently and cheaply. The bottom line is we have good choices already and they are CHEAP! Let me see, should I use GC or T&S (D1) for $4/q??? Let's see some cost/benefit analysis of $.79c Havoline verses whatever.

GC is a *** gift to man. Let's not move. Let's stop to appreciate. Let's celebrate this great gift. Hooray for GC and the elves that produce it. Now, a moment of silence.

Along the lines of that Shell Helix Ultra, I just read the link with the specs on it, and from what I'm reading, there's NOTHING on that sheet that would allow even a total nutcase in cost no object per liter of oil like me sees in the product to make me spend anywhere NEAR that price for it.

Do they add liquid gold to the additive package, is Shell having to pay the horsey for the symbol on the front of the jug?!?

Well a 10 dollar electronic watch keeps time as accurately as a Rolex.....

But if you use Shell Helix in your Ferrari you can "feel better" than the chump in the next lane running Wal-Mart Supertech in his 86 Camaro, LOL

I doubt that, I've got a $10 digital watch I bought from Walmart and it gains 2 seconds per day!

Well, taking this one to the n-th degree off topic, here's how to tell for sure. Call 202-762-1401. You'll here a goofy male computer voice reading out the time kept by the U.S. Naval Observatory Master Atomic Clock. BTW, it's been the same goofy voice for about 20 years (maybe longer). This is the number I'd call when preparing to fly a mission requiring that ordnance be not only on-target, but on-time. Usual standard: +/- six seconds. I guess I'm certifiably OCD, but I still take perverse pleasure in watching the news start at exactly the moment the second hand on my watch hits the straight up position. . .

I thought everyone at technical had clocks that were synched to Boulder by now? I have 2 in my ofice and the alarm in out bedroom is. I just bought an indoor-outdoor wireless thermometer that has one built in.

Is the signal too weak on the right coast?

"Ok, let me reask the question, does anyone here have experience USING the Shell Ultra Helix stuff?"

Yeah, I gain about 2 seconds in a quarter mile.

Actually, I own four variants of the radio-sync clock myself (travel version is about two feet from me as I type this). Sometimes it's just more fun to hear it from goofy computer dude himself.

Signal's fine in the east, but as everywhere, it doesn't penetrate all structures. Another reason to call my old friend. . .

FWIW, go figure, but I've shopped, hunted, and snooped for oil in many places. Helix is one of the very few that get talked about here that I've just never seen. No, I have not gone to a Ferrari dealer, though. I'm left wondering how there could be anything close to proportional value added for the price, especially when we see such good performance from garden variety contemporary dinos. Perhaps its primary mission is to give Ferrari dealers another effective technique for separating the over-wealthy from more of their "excess" money.

ekpolk, I'm beginning to agree with you on that one. I'm almost afraid to call up a dealer that carries it and ask for the extortionist pricing that they probably will have on it. I love my Honda, but not THAT much!!! I draw the line at $11 per liter!

And despite its gawd-awful thirst, I still love my G35. But the GC does so well for me, why on earth would I consider some other oil that costs roughly 10x as much?!? Don't bother with that phone call, unless you want to do it purely for amusement purposes. It will end with something like, "well, Sir, if you have to ask, you can't afford this oil. . ."

Rolex's "Perpetual" watch movements (automatic winding mechanical movements) are tested by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) and must meet an accuracy standard of -4 to +6 seconds per day (over the course of 15 days) in order to be labeled "Chronometer." So your $10 quartz watch from Wal-Mart is "technically" within COSC standards and could surpass the accuracy of a Rolex. However...

The COSC standards for QUARTZ watches is +/-0.07 seconds per day. In addition, the testing for quartz chronometers entails temperature, physical, and magnetic "torture tests" that would destroy most ordinary quartz watch movements. Currently Breitling is the only company that sells "certified" Swiss quartz chronometers.

Whats the deal with the Helix Ultra being so expensive in the US ?
Here it is at the same price point as M1 5w-50, various Castrol Formula R's, etc.
