Which Walmart is this exactly?

And it's not about having an oil with those grades, it's about an oil that meets the specified VW approval. That can usually be met by several grades, does your Walmart have any oil with the mentioned approval?

That I am not sure of. I will check that out. So a 5w30 is ok if it meets the spec? What exactly is so special about the vw spec compared to sat dexos?

According to walmart.com, the one in Sullivan does, available for pickup today, both Mobil 1 0W-40, and Castrol EDGE 0W-40 in 5qt jugs.

The odds of you finding one if you can't find a 0w-40, which is the most common Euro grade, are pretty slim.

Compared to Dexos? the VW spec will likely command a higher HTHS and will be loosely based on the ACEA guidelines, with their own tests and limits tossed in as well.

For one, VW spec requires HT/HS viscosity of at least 3.5 cP. Most other 5w30 oils like dexos are resource conserving and therefore have HT/HS viscosity that is lower than this.

Like everyone above, order in the correct VW 502/505 oil like Edge or M1 in 0w40 or 5W40. The VW spec is based on the Euro ACEA A3/B4 spec.

However for the sake of argument, if forced to go off spec, then I would select a mixed fleet HDEO that was API CK-4 / SN and Euro ACEA E9, such as Delo 400 XSP 5w40.

Basically a diesel truck oil that is also rated as suitable for gas cars.

Order it and have it shipped.

Years Ago I owned an Audi TT 1.8T And At the time I lived in Rural Indiana and couldn't find any 5w40 locally so I ran 10w40 Mobil 1 so I could get an acceptable HTHS.

Worst case use a synthetic 10w40 which should be common in the middle of nowhere on most shelves.
